Kazi Salahuddin steps aside from upcoming BFF election

Kazi Salahuddin, who has served as the President of Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) for four consecutive terms, announced that he will not be contesting in the upcoming election scheduled for October 26.

This decision comes after he previously declared his intention to participate in the election just a few days ago.

Salahuddin shared his final decision at a press conference on Saturday, stating, "There were calls to postpone the October 26 election. We had written to FIFA regarding this matter, and they responded, stating that the election cannot be delayed. I'll provide you with a copy of their letter."

On his decision to step down from the race, Salahuddin said, "I will not be contesting in the upcoming election. This is my final decision. I want to thank everyone for working with me over past 16 years. There have been misunderstandings along the way, but I hold no grudges. I hope you won't either. Thank you for your support, and I wish for the continued success and development of football in Bangladesh."

Salahuddin has not visited the BFF headquarters since the fall of Sheikh Hasina-led government on August 5. He hinted that this decision marks one of the most significant moments in his life.

While Salahuddin did not elaborate on his reasons for stepping down, close sources suggest that family pressure played a key role in his decision.
