Dr Yunus joins to revamp BPL ahead of 11th edition

The Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) is set for a major overhaul as the chief advisor Nobel laureate Dr. Muhammad Yunus steps in to help rejuvenate the country's flagship T20 tournament.

With the 11th edition on the horizon, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) aims to revitalize the tournament, which has faced controversies and declining public interest in recent years.

Youth and Sports Advisor Asif Mahmud, along with BCB President Faruque Ahmed, is spearheading the efforts to deliver a fresh and engaging BPL.

During a visit to Mirpur's Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium, Mahmud met with BCB officials to discuss the tournament's future, emphasizing the need for innovation and greater public involvement.

In a key development, Dr. Yunus has been brought in to provide strategic guidance. His experience with international events, including his contributions to the Olympics, makes him an ideal figure to advise on the transformation of the BPL.
According to Asif, the BCB is committed to implementing new ideas that can increase public engagement and restore the tournament's appeal.

"We are exploring ways to enhance public interest in the BPL, which has declined over the years. Dr. Yunus has shared innovative ideas on how to make the tournament more engaging and internationally recognized," Asif said during a press conference.

Dr. Yunus's approach focuses on incorporating fresh elements into the tournament's design, with an emphasis on creating a stronger connection between the BPL and its audience.

Following his suggestions, the BCB's BPL department presented a draft plan outlining a revamped version of the league. More discussions are planned between Dr. Yunus's team and BCB to finalize these ideas in the coming days.

BCB President Faruque Ahmed expressed optimism about the upcoming season, hinting that celebrities and legendary cricketers may be involved to boost engagement. "We want to bring new energy to domestic cricket through this year's BPL. You can expect something different this season—something that will engage everyone, from the fans to the media," Faruque stated.
