The Armed Police Battalion (APBn) achieved significant operational milestones in crime prevention, specialized intelligence investigations, and rapid civic service delivery throughout the month of July by maximizing the integration of modern information technology, data surveillance, and cyber analytics across its specialized units nationwide.
During this period, targeted operations conducted across multiple specialized wings yielded the recovery of 844 lost or stolen mobile handsets, Tk 958,148 swindled through organized digital fraud syndicates, 1,744 grams of smuggled gold, large consignments of narcotics, illegal firearms, ammunition, and substantial volumes of contraband merchandise. Multiple formal cases have been registered, and key suspects linked to these offenses have been apprehended.
The comprehensive operational briefing was delivered by Superintendent of Police (Training, Law, and Media) Asma Begum Rita during a press conference held at the APBn Headquarters in Uttara, Dhaka, on Sunday. She emphasized that strategic programs aimed at curbing criminal activities, expediting emergency response, and strengthening public safety frameworks will be further intensified. She attributed these law enforcement successes to tactical ground operations executed by regional field units backed by real-time digital intelligence and technical support from the Lawful Interception Cell (LIC) of APBn Headquarters.
In its anti-smuggling drives, the force intercepted and seized 1,744 grams of illegally imported gold. A total of 11 formal cases were initiated, leading to the arrest of five individuals directly implicated in gold smuggling networks. Additionally, specialized units seized 910 kg of smuggled cosmetics, 187 high-end sarees and three-piece dress sets, two mobile phones and laptops, 322 kg of marine crabs, two Forcibly Displaced Myanmar National (FDMN) identification cards, 236 kg of packaged food items, and an additional 411 kg of miscellaneous undeclared consumer goods.
Under its dedicated cyber policing and IT-enabled operations, APBn successfully resolved disputes involving four compromised Facebook accounts and three WhatsApp numbers, alongside neutralizing a fraudulent fake profile. The cyber desk also traced and recovered 13 SIM cards used in digital deception, one hacked Facebook identity, Tk 25,260 in liquid cash, an additional Tk 2,500 embezzled via fraud, 48 brand-new t-shirts, and a compromised email account, while resolving two distinct cyberbullying grievances.
Through integration with the National Emergency Service 999 platform, APBn personnel provided immediate on-ground assistance and emergency support to 508 citizens across various parts of the country.
Providing a detailed breakdown of specialized anti-narcotics sweeps, SP Asma Begum Rita disclosed that law enforcement teams seized 12,421 pieces of Yaba tablets, 1.18 kg of cannabis, 32 liters of illicit liquor, 285 cartons of various foreign cigarette brands, 72 electronic vape devices, and 72 cans of beer. Authorities also confiscated Tk 67,180 earned from illicit drug sales, culminating in 10 narcotics cases and the arrest of 11 suspects.
In illegal arms interdiction operations, the force recovered two one-shooter firearms, 16 rounds of live ammunition, one indigenous sharp chopper (hasua), and one locally fabricated iron billhook. One criminal case was initiated, leading to the detention of an armed perpetrator.
On the regulatory and traffic enforcement front, 331 traffic violation cases were filed, yielding Tk 928,000 in realized fines. Joint enforcement operations conducted in coordination with the Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institution (BSTI) and Executive Magistrate mobile courts realized an additional Tk 3,111,000 in penalties, with mobile courts awarding varying punitive terms to 36 offenders.
APBn field teams also tracked down and arrested 11 fugitives named in court arrest warrants and 16 suspects named in first information reports (FIRs), including two murder suspects, three individuals involved in abduction cases, and two accused in rape cases. During these specialized operations, 15 victims were safely rescued from dangerous circumstances.
Furthermore, within the security grid of the Rohingya refugee camps, 21 unauthorized vehicles were impounded for unlawful entry into restricted zones, and Tk 84,000 was recovered. In total, 31 fresh cases were registered across various APBn operational units throughout July, with comprehensive investigations actively underway.
Concluding the media briefing, SP Asma Begum Rita reaffirmed that APBn units remain dedicated to delivering prompt, technology-driven policing services to the public. She noted that the force will continue modernizing its technological capabilities to safeguard national security, uphold the rule of law, and expand transparent civic protections into the future.
