Performers staging a performance in tribute to National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam at the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy
A two-day commemorative event marking the 50th death anniversary of National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam concluded at the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy on August 28 through thoughtful discussions and vibrant cultural performances.
Poet Rezauddin Stalin, Director General of the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy, delivered the welcome address during the closing ceremony hosted at the academy's Music and Dance Auditorium.
The cultural segment featured solo and choral renditions by renowned vocalists, including Munni Kader, Monalin Azad, Yasmin Mustari, Ananda Majumder, Pushpita Banik, Yakub Ali Khan, Dr. Paritosh Mondal, Shamima Parveen Shimu, Moushumi Iqbal, and Mohman Islam. Captivating dance choreography was staged by several prominent troupes, including Satwik Shilpashram, Nrityabritti, Naim Khan Dance Company, Nrityalpana, Aradhana, and Bhangima Dance Theatre. Poetry recitations were delivered by elocutionists Shamima Alice, Iqbal Ahmed, and Sama Islam.
Simultaneously, a children's art competition titled "Sampriti O Swadhinata" (Harmony and Freedom) was organized at the Nazrul Institute in Dhanmondi, aiming to cultivate patriotic values, communal harmony, and cultural heritage among the youth. Jointly hosted by the Swadhinata Sangskritik Parishad and Swadhinata Charushilpi Parishad, the competition drew the participation of 130 children, with 12 outstanding young artists receiving awards across three distinct categories.
Ekushey Padak-winning eminent artist Professor Jamal Ahmed inaugurated the competition. Art critic, poet, and writer Zahid Mustafa alongside artist Sunil Kumar Malo served on the evaluation panel. Presided over by Swadhinata Charushilpi Parishad Convener Artist Ashraful Alam Poplu, the prize-giving session was attended by Joint Convener Albert Khan and Member Secretary SM Kamruzzaman Sagar, among others.
