Education Minister Dr. ANM Ehsanul Hoque Milon affirmed that the long-standing bilateral friendship and development cooperation between Bangladesh and Japan are set to expand further, particularly in educational reforms, language learning, and technical upskilling. The remarks were made on Monday during a high-level bilateral meeting with a special delegation from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) at his ministry office in the Bangladesh Secretariat.
The visiting Japanese delegation was led by Mochizuki Hiroshi, Director of the Human Development Department at JICA headquarters. During the dialogue, the Education Minister highlighted that the government is actively developing a revamped curriculum designed to bridge the practical skills gap between educational institutions and industrial sectors. Emphasizing the value of multilingual skills for youth competitiveness, he stated that a third-language component is being integrated into national curricula, with the Japanese language holding significant strategic importance. In line with the directives of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, the administration is prioritizing primary and secondary education enhancements through social safety-net initiatives, including complimentary school uniforms and the nationwide rollout of mid-day school meals. He also invited JICA to broaden its technical and financial support toward modernizing Bangladesh’s technical vocational institutes, expanding academic research, and enhancing higher education.
Speaking at the session, Prime Minister's Education Adviser Mahdi Amin underscored that cross-cultural linguistic proficiency forms the bedrock of people-to-people ties. He noted that the Prime Minister has placed direct emphasis on technical education and Japanese language acquisition, identifying key areas such as instructor development and technical pedagogy where Japan could provide meaningful expertise. The bilateral meeting was attended by Secondary and Higher Education Division Secretary Abdul Khaleque, Technical and Madrasah Education Division Secretary Md. Daud Miah, DSHE Director General Prof. Dr. Khan Moinuddin Al Mahmud Sohel, alongside senior JICA representatives including Adviser Usagawa Tsuyoshi, Senior Representative Morikawa Yuko, Deputy Programme Manager Alimul Hasan, and Technical Education Advisory Team Head Saeri Muto.
