Health and Family Welfare Minister Sardar Md. Sakhawat Hossain announced that a radical transformation in the country’s healthcare delivery system will take place within the next year under the leadership of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman. He made the statement on Tuesday evening as the chief guest at a discussion organized in front of the Monohardi Upazila BNP office in Narsingdi to commemorate the 48th founding anniversary of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP).
Speaking on government initiatives, the Health Minister stated that he has been traveling across districts to ensure medical services for the people, inspecting multiple hospitals in each district to drive noticeable improvements in healthcare quality. Turning to upcoming local governance polls, Sakhawat Hossain urged party activists to remain united for upcoming Union Parishad, municipality, and Zilla Parishad elections. He clarified that nominations will be awarded strictly on the basis of public popularity and electoral viability rather than mere participation in street rallies or past struggles, noting that while dedicated and persecuted leaders will be evaluated through alternative avenues, tickets will only go to those who can secure public votes. He added that the Prime Minister is actively assessing grass-roots popularity and will finalize candidate selections based on comprehensive ground reports.
Presided over by Monohardi Upazila BNP Joint Convener Mohammad Moniruzzaman Monir and moderated by Member Secretary Aminur Rahman Sarkar Dolon, the discussion was attended by Belabo Upazila BNP President Ahsan Habib Biplob, Monohardi Municipality BNP Member Secretary Advocate Abdul Hannan Mia, Upazila Sramik Dal President Zakir Hossain Akand Babul, Upazila Juba Dal Member Secretary Masudur Rahman Sohag, and Upazila Chhatra Dal President Moniruzzaman Choton, among others. Following the discussion, a colorful anniversary rally led by the Health Minister marched through key thoroughfares of the upazila toward the Sluice Gate area, after which the minister released fish fry into the Old Brahmaputra River.
