Social Welfare Minister Prof. Dr. A Z M Zahid Hossain
Minister for Women and Children Affairs and Social Welfare Professor Dr. A Z M Zahid Hossain asserted on Friday that the previous Awami League regime fled the country after leaving the national economy in a fragile state, adding that the BNP-led government under Prime Minister Tarique Rahman is working to revitalize key sectors.
The minister made the remarks as the chief guest at a municipal BNP worker conference and exchange meeting held at the Pilot High School grounds in Birampur town, Dinajpur.
Dr. Zahid stated that while the authoritarian Awami League and its allies fled during the 2024 mass uprising, they left behind severe institutional damage across the economy, agriculture, power, industry, commerce, and education. He explained that the current administration is working to rehabilitate roads, power supply, fertilizer distribution, healthcare, agriculture, and trade to ensure citizen well-being.
Highlighting sector-specific priorities, the minister emphasized that agriculture has been placed at the top of the agenda to directly address farmers' difficulties, noting that national progress hinges on rural agricultural productivity.
Addressing administrative timelines, Dr. Zahid noted that the government has completed only seven months in office. He remarked that completely overhauling and restructuring devastated state machinery within such a short span is challenging and requires adequate time, reassuring attendees that the administration remains dedicated to resolving lingering crises for public welfare.
The conference was chaired by Birampur Municipality Ward No. 3 BNP President Md. Mohibur Elahi Chowdhury Robin and moderated by General Secretary Mostafizur রহমান Noyon. Municipal BNP President Md. Humayun Kabir and General Secretary Md. Rezaul Karim Rezu attended as special guests.
