State Minister for Youth and Sports Md. Aminul Haq
State Minister for Youth and Sports and Convener of Dhaka Metropolitan North BNP Md. Aminul Haq announced on Friday that the government has undertaken initiatives to preserve a dedicated sports ground in every union and construct a mini-stadium across every upazila to foster grassroots athletic talent nationwide.
Speaking as the chief guest at the trophy distribution ceremony of the Habib Ullah Chokdar Memorial Football Tournament final at Habib Ullah Degree College ground in Sakhipur, Shariatpur, the state minister highlighted that Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has placed sports development at the top of the national agenda. The administration aims to establish sports as a viable professional career path while identifying and nurturing emerging talent from the grassroots to represent the nation.
Observing the large crowds in attendance, Aminul Haq noted that the immense public passion for football proves sports culture remains vibrant across rural Bangladesh.
Key infrastructural and policy plans outlined by the minister include:
Grassroots Infrastructure: Preserving at least one sports ground across all 4,599 unions in the country to widen community access.
Upazila Facilities: Accelerating ongoing development projects to construct standardized mini-stadiums in every upazila.
Professionalization & Talent Hunts: Channeling scouts to remote rural regions to ensure athletes outside metropolitan hubs receive national pathways.
Aminul Haq emphasized that sports and cultural engagements are vital tools to steer youth away from drug abuse and criminal activities, fostering discipline, leadership qualities, and empathy. Lawmakers Shafiqur Rahman Kiron and Sayeed Ahmed Aslam, alongside local civic leaders, attended the event.
