Chief of Army Staff General Waker-Uz-Zaman directed all personnel of the Bangladesh Army to discharge their duties with professional competence, discipline, and uncompromising responsibility on Thursday (October 1). The army chief delivered the directive during an extended command address to officers, junior commissioned officers, and soldiers at Army Headquarters in Dhaka Cantonment. He emphasized that maintaining institutional discipline and public trust remains the supreme priority for the armed forces as they assist civil administrations in maintaining public peace.
Reviewing ongoing state support operations, General Waker expressed sincere gratitude to the interim government and Prime Minister Tarique Rahman for their continued backing of army modernization and capability enhancement programs. He noted that modern weapon systems, high-mobility tactical equipment, and specialized training programs are being integrated into field formations to address traditional and asymmetric operational requirements. The army chief pointed out that the military must adapt swiftly to technological changes in modern warfare and tactical surveillance.
Defence analysts remarked that the leadership address highlights the army’s role as an anchor of constitutional stability during the transitional political period. Observers noted that joint operational patrols conducted alongside police formations have curbed violent street crime and restored stability across major metropolitan industrial zones. Military researchers emphasized that strict apolitical conduct is vital to safeguarding the reputation of the armed forces on the international peacekeeping stage.
The army chief instructed operational field commanders to ensure that troops deployed in aid-to-civil-power duties treat common citizens with courtesy and respect. He cautioned that arbitrary conduct or deviations from operational protocol will be addressed through departmental disciplinary mechanisms. Unit commanders were advised to prioritize continuous soldier welfare, family housing, and advanced physical conditioning across all regional cantonments.
Delivering his address to senior officers in Dhaka on Thursday, General Waker-Uz-Zaman reinforced the core values of military service. General Waker-Uz-Zaman said, "The Bangladesh Army belongs to the people, and our officers and men must preserve institutional integrity, follow lawful commands, and defend national sovereignty under all circumstances". He urged all personnel to remain fully prepared to respond to climatic emergencies and national defence calls.
