Inspector General of Police Md. Ali Hossain Fakir inspects Dhakeshwari Temple
Inspector General of Police (IGP) Md. Ali Hossain Fakir has stated that Sharadiya Durga Puja is being celebrated peacefully across more than 33,000 puja mandaps nationwide. He noted that close coordination with puja celebration committees and their proactive assistance to law enforcement agencies have made this peaceful environment possible.
The police chief assured that this secure and orderly environment will be maintained right through the immersion of the idols (protima bisorjon). He made these remarks on Saturday evening (October 17) while speaking to reporters after inspecting security arrangements at the Dhakeshwari National Temple in Dhaka.
Addressing security concerns, the IGP warned that certain quarters have attempted to spread disinformation around the festivities. Urging citizens to remain vigilant against rumors, he stressed that everyone must unite to combat destructive forces in the spirit of Goddess Durga. "Whatever our religion, opinion, or ethnicity may be, this country belongs to all of us," the IGP stated, noting that the collective goal remains building a peaceful and prosperous Bangladesh free of evil elements.
Reflecting on the challenges faced by law enforcement, the police chief recalled that immediately following August 5, police activities remained suspended for five to seven days, during which public insecurity peaked and incidents of mugging and robbery occurred. However, with public support, Bangladesh Police has mounted a successful turnaround. Leaders of the Puja Udjapan Parishad extended thanks to the police for providing comprehensive security umbrellas over mandaps, enabling devotees to worship without fear. Senior police officials and community representatives were present during the inspection.
