The government has cancelled the remaining tenure of Dr Ahsan H Mansur as Governor of Bangladesh Bank (BB) and appointed Md Mostakur Rahman as the new Governor for a four-year term, according to separate official notifications.
The orders were confirmed in two separate gazette notifications signed by Mohammad Abraul Hasan Majumder, Deputy Secretary of Financial Institutions Division under Ministry of Finance.
The notification regarding Dr Mansur stated that his remaining tenure as Governor—originally granted through a notification dated 13 August 2024 (No. 53.00.0000.311.11.016.17-60); has been cancelled with immediate effect.
In a separate notification, Md Mostakur Rahman, FCMA, was appointed as the new Governor of Bangladesh Bank for a period of four years from the date of his joining.
His appointment is subject to relinquishing all employment relationships with other institutions and organisations prior to assuming office.
The government said the new appointment will take effect from the date Mostakur formally joins the central bank.
