Bangladesh Bank organised a capacity-building workshop onCMSME Financing Policy in Gaibandha to strengthen the implementation of structured,inclusive, and sustainable financing across the banking sector.
The initiative reflects the central bank’s continued commitment to enhancing institutionalreadiness and professional excellence in supporting cottage, micro, small, and mediumenterprises (CMSME).
BRAC Bank participated in the program as the Lead Bank, reinforcing its longstandingleadership in SME banking and its commitment to advancing policy-aligned financial inclusionat the grassroots level. The workshop, held at the R Rahman Community Centre in GaibandhaSadar on 21 April 2026, brought together representatives from 27 banks operating in the district.
The program aimed to enhance operational capabilities and promote a deeper understanding of policy-driven CMSME financing frameworks.
Md. Shakhawat Hossain, Executive Director of Bangladesh Bank Bogura Office, presided over the session. Honourable guests included Md. Mahiduddin Ahmed, General Head of Uttara Bank, and Md. Fazlul Kabir, Regional Head; Bidhan Chandra Mukherjee, Regional Head of SME Banking; and Md. Azgar Hossain, Cluster Manager of BRAC Bank. The workshop covered key aspects of CMSME Financing Policy implementation, includingregulatory compliance, structured financing models, risk management standards, and thestrategic role of financial institutions in fostering sustainable entrepreneurship. Participantsengaged in interactive knowledge-sharing sessions designed to strengthen institutional capacity and ensure more effective financing support for emerging entrepreneurs.
Bangladesh Bank officials underscored the CMSME sector’s vital role in driving economicgrowth, generating employment, and fostering regional development. They emphasised theimportance of coordinated efforts, strong governance, and adherence to policies across financialinstitutions to build a resilient and inclusive economic ecosystem.
