The 289th branch of Karmasangsthan Bank was officially inaugurated at Tongibari in Munshiganj on May 16, 2026, aiming to expand employment opportunities and financial inclusion in the area.
The inauguration ceremony was held at the conference hall of the Institute of Marine Technology in Tongibari under the chairmanship of Karmasangsthan Bank Chairman and former secretary Dr. A.F.M. Matiur Rahman. Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister A.B.M. Abdus Sattar attended the event as the chief guest.
Religious Affairs Secretary Munshi Alauddin Al Azad, NDC, and Financial Institutions Division Secretary Najma Mobarek were present as special guests. Member of Parliament for Munshiganj-2 constituency Abdus Salam Azad attended the programme as the inaugurator.
At the beginning of the programme, Managing Director Arun Kumar Chowdhury delivered the welcome speech and briefed the guests on the overall activities and achievements of the bank.
Speaking at the event, Principal Secretary A.B.M. Abdus Sattar said that despite mixed conditions in the banking sector, Karmasangsthan Bank has maintained a comparatively positive image. He urged the bank to continue its achievements and create more employment opportunities through greater financial inclusion.
Chairman Dr. A.F.M. Matiur Rahman described the inauguration of the Tongibari branch as a milestone for the bank. He encouraged local youths, women entrepreneurs and small business owners to move forward towards self-employment with the bank’s financial assistance.
MP Abdus Salam Azad termed Tongibari a promising region and said financial support and training from Karmasangsthan Bank could further strengthen agriculture, fisheries, small businesses and other industries in the area, creating new employment opportunities.
Financial Institutions Division Secretary Najma Mobarek said banking is not only about business, but also about creating employment opportunities. She expressed hope that the new branch would open doors for unemployed people in Tongibari. She also noted that although women’s participation in the labour market has declined, Karmasangsthan Bank continues to play a significant role in creating employment opportunities for women.
Among others, Bangladesh Bank Executive Director and member of the bank’s Board of Directors Md. Hanif Mia, Munshiganj Deputy Commissioner Syeda Nur Mahal Ashrafi, former additional secretary and board member Md. Mostafa Kamal Majumder, Deputy Managing Director Meher Sultana, General Managers Mahmuda Yasmin, Md. Shafiqul Islam Mia and Md. Amirul Islam, senior officials of the bank and local journalists attended the programme.
At the end of the event, the chief guest and other distinguished guests distributed loan cheques among entrepreneurs of the newly inaugurated Tongibari branch.
