Unico Hospital organized a Continuing Medical Education (CME) session titled “Minimally Invasive Heart Surgery”, aimed at enhancing the clinical knowledge and awareness of healthcare professionals regarding advanced cardiac surgical techniques, modern treatment approaches, and improved patient outcomes in minimally invasive heart care.
The keynote presentation was delivered by Prof. Dr. Md. Faizus Sazzad, of the Department of Cardiothoracic & Vascular Surgery, Unico Hospital, who highlighted the latest advancements in Minimally Invasive Heart Surgery (MICS) and its significant benefits in reducing surgical trauma, postoperative pain, and recovery time while improving overall patient outcomes.
Professor Theodoros Kofidis, Senior Consultant in Cardiothoracic Surgery at Mount Elizabeth Hospital, Singapore, shared expert insights on advanced minimally invasive and endoscopic cardiac procedures, including valve repair and bypass surgery. His former trainee and colleague for the past 10 years, Prof. Dr. Faizus Sazzad, currently serves at Unico Hospital, Green Road, Dhaka, further fostering international clinical collaboration and academic exchange between Bangladesh and Singapore, with a view to transforming cardiac services in Bangladesh.
The program also featured a felicitation speech by Mr. Yong Yih Ming, Chief Executive Officer of Mount Elizabeth Hospital and Chief Operating Officer of IHH Healthcare Singapore. The interactive and high-impact CME session served as an important platform for professional collaboration, medical education, and the advancement of modern cardiac surgical practices in Bangladesh.
During the event, IHH Healthcare Singapore and Unico Hospital officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen clinical collaboration between the two institutions. The partnership aims to enhance clinical expertise through the mutual sharing of best practices, online educational programs, specialist-led training sessions, and observership opportunities for selected healthcare professionals.
The event was attended by Unico Hospital CEO Ardra Kurien, senior consultants, physicians from various departments, distinguished guests, and members of Unico Hospital’s senior management team. Among the notable attendees were Dr. Simeen M. Akhtar, COO and former Chief Medical Officer of Praava Health; Prof. Dr. Syed Atiqul Haque, former Chairman of the Department of Rheumatology, BMU (PG Hospital); and Professor Dr. Baren Chakraborty, Senior Consultant Cardiologist, holder of a Senior Fellowship in Cardiology (Singapore), and Chief of Medical Education & Research at Labaid Cardiac Hospital. Discussions throughout the session focused on the growing importance and advancements of Minimally Invasive Heart Surgery in Bangladesh, highlighting its role in reducing recovery time, surgical trauma, and postoperative complications. Experts emphasized the importance of continuous medical education, awareness initiatives, and coordinated healthcare efforts to improve access to advanced cardiac care and enhance patient outcomes.
The collaboration between Unico Hospital and IHH Healthcare Singapore reflects a shared commitment to advancing cardiac care, strengthening medical education, and promoting international clinical excellence for the benefit of patients in Bangladesh.
