The final and closing ceremony of the “Shahjalal Islami Bank Open and Junior Tennis Tournament-2026” was held on May 20, 2026, at the National Tennis Complex in Ramna, Dhaka, under the initiative of the Bangladesh Tennis Federation. The seven-day tournament concluded with a grand event where State Minister for Youth and Sports Md. Aminul Haque attended as the chief guest and distributed prizes among the winners. Chairman of the Board of Directors of Shahjalal Islami Bank PLC Mohammad Younus was present as the special guest, while Bangladesh Tennis Federation President Abdul Hai Sarkar chaired the programme.
Among others present at the event were Bangladesh Tennis Federation General Secretary Ishtiaq Ahmed Karen, Tournament Director Shafiqul Islam Sohel, Tournament Referee Zain Omar, and Head of Public Relations and Bank Foundation of Shahjalal Islami Bank PLC K.M. Harunur Rashid, along with officials from both organizations.
A total of 159 tennis players from across the country participated in this year’s tournament. Competitions were held in eight categories, including men’s singles, women’s singles, men’s doubles, women’s doubles, Under-12 boys’ singles, Under-12 girls’ singles, Under-16 boys’ singles, and Under-16 girls’ singles. All matches were conducted under the knockout format.
Speaking at the session, chief guest Md. Aminul Haque congratulated the winners and encouraged those who were defeated to continue their efforts with renewed determination. He said the current government has already undertaken various initiatives for the development of sports in the country and thanked the players who came from different parts of Bangladesh to participate in the tournament.
Special guest Mohammad Younus said Shahjalal Islami Bank PLC has been carrying out various CSR activities alongside its banking operations and has also been contributing to the development of sports in the country. He added that the bank would continue to play a similar role in the future.
