The National Board of Revenue (NBR) has announced that businesses must be integrated into the e-VAT system by 30 June.
The information was disclosed in a notice issued by the revenue authority on Sunday.
According to the notice, taxpayers who fail to join the e-VAT system within the stipulated timeframe will not be able to have their VAT refund applications processed.
The notice stated that a new sub-module titled “Hard Copy Return Entry” has been added to the e-VAT system for taxpayers who have already submitted hard-copy VAT returns.
The NBR had issued a circular on 5 January outlining the operational procedures of the sub-module. Under the circular, 31March 2026 was set as the deadline for entering all hard-copy returns into the online system.
However, data from the e-VAT System shows that a significant number of hard-copy returns have yet to be entered online.
The NBR has decided to make online VAT return submission mandatory from July 2026. As a result, the deadline has been extended until 30 June for businesses that submitted hard-copy returns but have not yet entered them into the online system.
According to the notice, the Closing Balance of businesses that fail to enter their hard-copy returns into the e-VAT System within the extended deadline will be frozen from May 2026, meaning no adjustments can be made against that balance.
Furthermore, since 100% of VAT returns must be available online for refund applications to be considered, businesses will not be able to submit any refund claims unless all previous VAT returns have been entered into the e-VAT System.
