Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Minister and BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has announced that a Chinese delegation will visit Bangladesh within the next two months to explore investment and industrialisation opportunities, particularly in the country’s northern region.
Speaking as the chief guest at an event held at Shaheed Mohammad Ali Stadium in Thakurgaon on Friday, Fakhrul said the visit could open new prospects for industrial development and economic growth in northern Bangladesh.
Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh Yao Wen was also present at the event, said a press release.
The minister emphasised that industrialisation is essential for national development and job creation. He said the government is working to establish new industries across different regions of the country and believes that Thakurgaon and surrounding areas possess significant industrial potential.
“We want to build industries in Bangladesh. Thakurgaon and the northern region offer promising opportunities for industrialisation. A Chinese delegation is expected to visit within the next one or two months to assess these prospects,” he said.
Highlighting the importance of self-reliance, Fakhrul noted that sustainable national development depends on strengthening domestic capabilities, expanding education, and promoting hard work.
Referring to China’s economic success, he said the country has become a global economic power through its own efforts, skilled workforce, and productive activities.
He also stressed the need for Bangladesh to rely on its own strengths to achieve greater prosperity and development.
Addressing education and human resource development, the minister said Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has undertaken various initiatives to help build a more educated, skilled, and capable younger generation. He called on all stakeholders to work together to ensure quality education and strong moral values for future generations.
Speaking at the event, Chinese Ambassador Yao Wen reaffirmed China’s commitment to strengthening cooperation with Bangladesh. He said a Chinese delegation is expected to visit Bangladesh in July or August to inspect potential areas for investment and collaboration.
Following the event, the guests distributed educational materials among 6,308 students from 36 educational institutions in Thakurgaon municipality.
The programme was attended by local public representatives, educators, political leaders, and members of various professional groups.
