The government has appointed Ahsan Habib as the new chairman of the National Board of Revenue (NBR), replacing Md Abdur Rahman Khan.
A notification announcing the appointment was issued on Monday.
Before his appointment, Ahsan served as a member of the NBR and director general of the Central Intelligence Cell (CIC), the tax intelligence wing responsible for investigating tax evasion and financial irregularities.
An officer of the 15th BCS (Taxation) cadre, Ahsan graduated from the Department of Geology at the University of Dhaka, securing first class first position. He also ranked first in his BCS batch.
During his career, he served as commissioner of Tax Zone-15 and later led the Central Intelligence Cell, where he oversaw several high-profile investigations into tax evasion and financial misconduct.
He also played a key role in the government's initiative to recover outstanding taxes from the online gambling platform UlkaGames.
As the new NBR chairman, Ahsan will lead the country's apex revenue authority, overseeing tax administration, customs operations, and revenue collection.
