A Dhaka court on Monday deferred the submission of the probe report in the Bangladesh Bank reserve heist case, setting 9 August as the new date. This marks the 96th postponement of the report's submission.
Dhaka Additional Metropolitan Magistrate Jashita Islam set the new date after the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) failed to submit the report on the scheduled date.
Earlier, on 5 February 2016, hackers stole a total of USD 8.1 crore from the Bangladesh Bank by fraudulently using the SWIFT system to withdraw funds from the United States Federal Reserve Bank, which were then transferred to the Philippines.
At the time, officials suspected that the heist had been carried out with the assistance of an internal network within the country. Later, Bangladesh Bank Deputy Director Zobayer Bin Huda filed the case with Motijheel Police Station on 15 March 2016.
