Bangladesh Krishi Bank (BKB) has written off more than Tk600 crore in agricultural loans for over 700,000 farmers over the past five months.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the state-owned bank said the loan waiver was implemented as part of the government's farmer-friendly policy.
After assuming office in February this year, the BNP-led government decided to waive agricultural loans of up to Tk10,000, including accrued interest. The latest initiative was carried out under that decision.
According to the bank, eligible farmers were selected through a verification process and account reconciliation to ensure that the benefits reached genuine recipients.
