Prime Minister's Adviser and spokesperson of the Prime Minister's Office Mahdi Amin said on Thursday that the government is committed to increasing foreign investment and creating a more business-friendly environment.
“We want to create an investment-friendly environment that will empower people and create new employment opportunities while reducing business operating costs and opening up new avenues for trade facilitation,” he said.
Mahdi made the remarks at a conference organised by the Foreign Investors’ Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) at the Bangladesh-China Friendship Conference Centre in Dhaka.
The FICCI FDI Conference 2026, titled “Accelerating Foreign Investment for Employment and Prosperity in Bangladesh”, began with the national anthem. Prime Minister Tarique Rahman attended the event as the chief guest and visited the Investors’ Expo before the formal inauguration, where he exchanged views with representatives of participating companies and organisations.
Addressing the event, Mahdi said the Prime Minister had come to meet foreign investors despite his busy schedule, while investors had also successfully presented their expertise, global best practices and investment plans.
Describing the ministerial-level panel as unique, Mahdi Amin said the format of the event had initially been different.
“The plan was that investors would speak and policymakers would listen. However, at the last moment, the organisers changed it. There was a growing interest and demand for policymakers to speak while investors listened,” he said.
Explaining the government’s vision, Mahdi Amin said the newly formed government was fully aware of the various challenges that had accumulated over many years.
“However, we have adopted a realistic and logical approach to addressing these challenges, where every problem is viewed as a new opportunity. It is an opportunity to rebuild the nation and achieve shared prosperity, create new jobs by overcoming crises, and take businesses forward through effective policy support,” he said.
Highlighting the importance of investors’ partnership, he said everyone present at the event had a story of success, resilience and collective efforts to rebuild the nation.
“As a government elected by the people, we want to maintain this strong relationship with you. We are interested in establishing a permanent process of continuous dialogue and consultation so that the aspirations of businesses at all levels, both domestic and foreign, are properly reflected in our policymaking and its implementation on the ground,” he said.
Thanking foreign investors, the Prime Minister’s adviser said they were not merely doing business but had also become representatives of Bangladesh in their respective countries.
“You are spreading the aspirations of our people and taking the ‘Made in Bangladesh’ slogan to the global stage. In that sense, we consider each of you a brand ambassador for Bangladesh in your respective countries,” he said.
He said the government would take all possible steps under the leadership of the Prime Minister, who had laid out a clear policy framework for the development of business, entrepreneurship and industry.
“Our goal is to build a Bangladesh that will open new doors for employment, trade and investment,” he said.
Calling for united efforts, Mahdi Amin said the government’s goal was to build a prosperous Bangladesh by ensuring equality, social justice and universal inclusion.
“We want to work together with everyone on this journey,” he said.
Among others, Commerce Minister Khandaker Abdul Muktadir, State Minister for Land Barrister Mir Mohammad Helal Uddin, FICCI President and Berger Paints Bangladesh Managing Director Rupali Haque Chowdhury, and BIDA Chairman Ashik Chowdhury attended the international conference.
Around 600 domestic and foreign investors and representatives, as well as senior government officials, policymakers, representatives of regulatory agencies, diplomats, development partners, executives of multinational companies and business leaders, were also present.
