Finance Minister Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury has said that preparing a national budget is only the first step, and its true success depends on effective implementation. He urged officials of the Finance Division to work with commitment and coordination to achieve the budget's objectives.
The minister made the remarks on Thursday while addressing his first meeting with Finance Division officials at the Ministry of Finance. The meeting was chaired by Finance Division Secretary Dr Md Khairuzzaman Majumder.
He said the recently announced national budget had received a positive response from different sections of society, adding that its targets could be achieved through collective efforts.
The finance minister also stressed the need to improve public perceptions of the bureaucracy by encouraging innovation, open discussion and collaborative work. He urged officials to focus not only on identifying problems but also on proposing practical solutions.
Later, after a meeting on an integrated development plan for Cox's Bazar at the Secretariat, Chowdhury told reporters that the government was preparing a comprehensive master plan to develop Cox's Bazar into an international and regional tourism hub.
He said the government was reviewing existing coastal development restrictions while ensuring environmental protection. The plan also includes strengthening airport, rail and road infrastructure to transform Cox's Bazar into a modern tourism city.
According to the minister, the government aims to develop Cox's Bazar as a major growth hub as part of its goal of building a $1 trillion economy by 2034.
