MEP Hi-Tech is investing Tk 200 crore to establish an electrical and electronics manufacturing facility at the National Special Economic Zone in Mirsarai, Chattogram, a project expected to create around 2,000 direct and indirect jobs.
The company will develop the technology-driven, environmentally friendly plant on approximately 10 acres of land. The facility will manufacture a range of electrical and electronic products, including wires, switch sockets, fans, LED lights and circuit breakers.
The construction of the MEP Hi-Tech Industrial Park was inaugurated on Sunday by Saleh Ahmed, Executive Member (Investment and Development) and Additional Secretary of the Bangladesh Economic Zones Authority (BEZA).
MEP Group Managing Director Dr Md Jahangir Alam Chakladar and Chairman Shafiul Ahmed Chakladar attended the ceremony as special guests.
According to BEZA, MEP Group has been operating in Bangladesh's electrical and electronics industry since 1974. The company aims to begin commercial production within the next year.
Speaking at the event, Saleh Ahmed said the investment would make a significant contribution to the country's industrialisation by promoting technology-driven manufacturing, supporting import substitution, creating employment and diversifying exports.
He added that BEZA would continue providing the necessary support to ensure an investment-friendly environment and facilitate the rapid establishment of industries.
