BTMA and BGMEA leaders exchange the signed MoU to jointly organize an international textile and apparel machinery exhibition in Dhaka.
The Bangladesh Textile Mills Association (BTMA) and the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) have signed an agreement to jointly organize an international textile and apparel machinery exhibition as part of efforts to strengthen the country's textile and garment industry and support the goal of achieving US$100 billion in exports.
The memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed on Tuesday at Gulshan Club in Dhaka by BTMA President Showkat Aziz Russell and BGMEA President Mahmud Hasan Khan.
Under the agreement, the two industry bodies will jointly organize the Bangladesh International Textile and Apparel Machinery Exhibition (BITMA) to promote technological modernization, improve global competitiveness and help the industry expand into new markets.
An internationally renowned event management company will be engaged to organize the exhibition, which will showcase the latest innovations in automation, artificial intelligence (AI), advanced manufacturing technologies and sustainable fashion.
A 10-member joint organizing committee, with equal representation from BTMA and BGMEA, will oversee strategic decisions, event management and financial transparency. The committee's chairmanship will rotate annually between the two organizations, with BTMA serving as the first chair and BGMEA as co-chair.
Speaking at the event, BGMEA President Mahmud Hasan Khan said rapid advances in AI and green technologies are reshaping the global apparel industry, and the joint initiative would help Bangladesh remain competitive while promoting higher-value and environmentally sustainable production.
BTMA President Showkat Aziz Russell described the partnership as more than an exhibition, calling it a long-term platform for technological transformation, foreign investment and skills development.
Both organizations expressed optimism that the initiative would facilitate technology transfer, attract international investment, expand global business networks and contribute to Bangladesh's economic growth.
