The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) today recommended in-principle approval for several key proposals, including the emergency procurement of eight Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) cargoes from four international suppliers via the Direct Procurement Method (DPM) to maintain an uninterrupted gas supply amid geopolitical volatility.
The recommendations were finalized during the committee's 24th meeting of the year, held at the Cabinet Division Conference Room in the Bangladesh Secretariat with Finance Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury presiding.
To address pressing domestic gas demand, the committee advised policy approval to import two LNG cargoes each from Blackcube International Ltd (UK), Global Fuel Supplies Pte Ltd (Australia), Plentitude Energy Sdn Bhd (Malaysia), and Maxwell International SPC (Oman) through international direct procurement. The emergency purchases were initiated in response to heightened regional instability arising from conflicts involving Iran, Israel, and the United States.
Furthermore, the committee recommended policy approval to procure 5,000 metric tons ($\pm 5\%$) of LPG from Speed Marketing Corporation (Speed Group) via direct international procurement. The price is set at Saudi Aramco Contract Price (CP) plus USD 97 per metric ton on a Cost and Freight (CFR) basis. The LPG, consisting of 35–40 percent propane and 60–65 percent butane, aims to meet urgent domestic demand, expand the government's market presence, and stabilize consumer prices.
In the public transit sector, the committee granted policy approval for a government-funded project to procure approximately 200 electric buses for the Bangladesh Road Transport Corporation (BRTC)—including dedicated buses for female passengers—alongside the construction of charging stations and supporting infrastructure via DPM.
Meanwhile, a proposal submitted by the Energy and Mineral Resources Division seeking policy endorsement for the draft "Bangladesh Onshore Model Production Sharing Contract (PSC) 2026 (Plain Lands)" was withdrawn from the meeting agenda.
