The Bangladesh Jewellers' Association (BAJUS) has announced a fresh hike in the local prices of gold and silver. According to the updated price schedule, the precious metals are being traded at revised rates starting Friday (August 7).
BAJUS previously adjusted the rates upward on the morning of August 6, raising the price of gold by Tk 9,856 per bhori and silver by Tk 292 per bhori.
In an official statement, BAJUS explained that the price hike was necessitated by an increase in pure gold and silver prices in the local bullion market. Considering overall conditions, the association recalibrated prices, which took effect from 10:00 AM on Thursday.
Including VAT, the price of 22-carat gold per bhori (11.664 grams) has been set at Tk 2,32,930. Furthermore, 21-carat gold is selling at Tk 2,22,491 per bhori, 18-carat gold at Tk 1,91,056 per bhori, and traditional-method gold at Tk 1,56,064 per bhori.
BAJUS highlighted that the new rates will remain effective across all jewelry retail outlets nationwide until further notice. However, making charges and design fees will be added separately to the retail price. Since VAT is already factored into the base price, retailers cannot charge extra VAT to customers. Existing guidelines regarding jewelry exchanges and buybacks remain unchanged.
Prior to this adjustment, gold prices were last revised on July 31, when 22-carat gold was increased by Tk 2,216 per bhori to reach Tk 2,23,074.
So far this year, gold prices have been adjusted 98 times—rising on 48 occasions, dropping 49 times, and undergoing a single VAT re-alignment. In contrast, 2025 recorded a total of 93 price adjustments, comprising 64 increases and 29 reductions.
Alongside gold, silver prices also experienced an upward revision. Under the updated schedule, 22-carat silver is trading at Tk 4,899 per bhori, reflecting a Tk 292 increase. Additionally, 21-carat silver is priced at Tk 4,666 per bhori, 18-carat silver at Tk 4,024 per bhori, and traditional-method silver at Tk 3,033 per bhori.
Silver prices have undergone 61 adjustments this year, incorporating 31 rate hikes and 30 reductions.
