The Energy Division has clarified that the proposed policy governing the private sector's import, storage, transportation, distribution, and marketing of refined fuel oil provides no scope to grant special privileges to any individual, organization, or group. The division also asserted that speculative and untrue information regarding the draft policy is circulating across section of the media and social media.
The clarification was issued on Saturday (August 8) via a press release signed by Muhammad Arif Sadeq, Deputy Chief Information Officer of the Ministry of Power, Energy, and Mineral Resources.
According to the statement, the initiative to draft the "Policy for Private Sector Import, Storage, Transportation, Distribution, and Marketing of Refined Fuel Oil, 2026" was undertaken to guarantee uninterrupted and secure fuel oil supplies across the nation.
The Energy Division emphasized that the main objectives of the proposed framework are to fortify national energy security and sustain a seamless supply chain. Furthermore, it aims to foster a transparent and competitive market structure while leveraging private-sector infrastructure and investment capacity alongside public mechanisms during emergencies or supply crises.
The statement noted that the policy would be finalized only after gathering comprehensive feedback and recommendations from all relevant stakeholders in the energy sector. A policy of this nature will move forward solely if it strictly upholds public interest, energy security, market competitiveness, transparency, and accountability.
Terming the ongoing dissemination of speculative and misleading information unwanted, the Energy Division urged all media outlets and social media users to act responsibly regarding the matter.
