Marking a major milestone in Bangladesh’s digital financial service ecosystem, leading telecom operator Banglalink has secured the Payment Service Provider (PSP) license from the central bank, Bangladesh Bank. Following an official gazette notification issued on Tuesday, Banglalink announced the rollout of its dedicated digital wallet service, titled 'Muktay Pay', signaling its formal entry into the country’s booming fintech landscape.
Under the framework authorized by Bangladesh Bank, 'Muktay Pay' will empower individual users, merchants, and small enterprises to seamlessly execute digital fund transfers, e-commerce checkout payments, utility bill settlements, and corporate salary disbursements. Banglalink’s parent company, VEON, has further reinforced its investment commitment by applying for a full-fledged digital banking license in Bangladesh. The initiative primarily focuses on financial inclusion—aiming to bridge the economic divide by bringing unbanked populations, street vendors, and small entrepreneurs into the formal banking system while driving the nation toward a $1 trillion economy by 2034.
