The government has approved the procurement of two spot cargoes of Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) from Singapore-based BP Singapore Pte. Limited to maintain an uninterrupted domestic natural gas supply, at an aggregate expenditure exceeding Tk 1,850 crore inclusive of Advance Income Tax (AIT).
The procurement proposals received formal approval on Monday during a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Government Purchase (CCGP) convened at the Bangladesh Secretariat, presided over by Finance Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury.
The Energy and Mineral Resources Division tabled the procurement proposals under the International Request for Quotation (RFQ) framework, pursuant to Rule 105(3)(a) of the Public Procurement Rules (PPR) 2025.
According to the approved schedule, one LNG cargo slated for delivery on August 23–24 will be procured from BP Singapore at a rate of $21.878 per Million British Thermal Unit (MMBtu). The gross expenditure for this shipment stands at Tk 927,50,60,833.92, inclusive of AIT.
Additionally, the committee sanctioned a second cargo scheduled for delivery on September 4–5 from the same supplier at a unit price of $21.778 per MMBtu. The total allocated cost for the second consignment amounts to Tk 923,26,66,369.92 including AIT.
The cumulative outlay across both LNG shipments will stand at approximately Tk 1,850.77 crore. The cabinet committee reviewed the statutory documentation before granting formal procurement approval under the PPR-2025 framework.
