Officials from the United States Department of the Treasury have expressed strong satisfaction with the tangible strides made by Bangladesh Bank in stabilizing the national economy and steering crucial structural reforms across the country’s financial landscape.
The endorsement came during a high-level bilateral meeting on Thursday at the central bank headquarters in Motijheel, where a US delegation led by Treasury Attaché Larita Bolden and Local Staff Member Disha Dubey called on Bangladesh Bank Governor Md. Mostaqur Rahman.
Throughout the discussions, the central bank leadership walked the visiting US officials through the dynamic interventions rolled out over recent months. The briefing covered extensive ground, detailing the trajectory of key macroeconomic indicators alongside targeted monetary policy adjustments aimed at containing domestic inflation. Central bank authorities also outlined the mechanisms behind current market-driven exchange rate policies and the operational execution of recent incentive packages structured to stimulate productive sectors and support inward remittances.
A major focus of the discourse centered on structural overhauls underway within commercial banking institutions, particularly efforts to improve governance frameworks, enhance risk management oversight, and resolve bad-debt burdens.
Senior central bank leadership, including Deputy Governors Dr. Md. Habibur Rahman, Dr. Md. Kabir Ahmed, and Md. Sarwar Hossain, participated in the deliberations.
Welcoming the momentum of these corrective measures, the US Treasury delegation pledged Washington’s unwavering institutional support and technical cooperation to help Bangladesh sustain its reform agenda. Both sides concluded the meeting by emphasizing that persistent, close collaboration between the central bank and the US Treasury remains indispensable for navigating global economic volatility and consolidating long-term financial stability.
