Domestic gold prices in Bangladesh have recorded another sharp escalation as the Bangladesh Jewellers Association (BAJUS) announced price hikes for the third straight session, pushing the market rate of premier hallmarked gold close to the quarter-million-taka threshold.
Under the latest revision, the price of gold jewelry, including mandatory government value-added tax (VAT), has been raised by up to BDT 1,633 per bhori (11.664 grams). The revised pricing structure came into immediate effect from 10:00 AM on Tuesday (August 25), following an emergency meeting of the BAJUS Standing Committee on Pricing and Price Monitoring.
According to the updated rate schedule issued by the jewelers' apex body, the price of the finest quality 22-carat gold has been set at BDT 247,743 per bhori including VAT, up from the previous rate of BDT 246,110 recorded on Monday. Concurrently, 21-carat gold has been recalibrated to BDT 236,604 per bhori, while 18-carat gold is listed at BDT 203,187 per bhori, and traditional method gold stands at BDT 165,920 per bhori.
In contrast to the steady surge in bullion rates, domestic silver prices remain unchanged across all categories. The retail rate for hallmarked 22-carat silver continues at BDT 5,482 per bhori, with 21-carat silver priced at BDT 5,249 per bhori, 18-carat at BDT 4,491 per bhori, and traditional category silver holding steady at BDT 3,383 per bhori.
