Bangladesh has formally called upon Qatar to grant priority status to its liquefied natural gas (LNG) consignments as soon as maritime navigation resumes through the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz following recent disruptions.
The request was conveyed on August 27 during a bilateral engagement between Bangladesh State Minister for Foreign Affairs Humaiun Kobir and Qatar's Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Sultan bin Saad Al-Muraikhi, convened on the sidelines of the 23rd Extraordinary Council of Foreign Ministers (CFM) of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) in Jeddah.
During the discussion, the state minister highlighted the severe challenges facing global energy logistics in the wake of sea route suspensions, appealing to Doha to ensure that Dhaka receives immediate preference once shipping lanes are cleared for transit. Reaffirming Bangladesh's stance on regional diplomacy, State Minister Humaiun Kobir noted:
"Bangladesh deeply appreciates Qatar's active mediation efforts between Iran and the United States and firmly supports Doha's constructive role in fostering peaceful dialogue as well as regional peace and stability."
In response, the Qatari minister of state expressed sincere gratitude for Bangladesh's steadfast diplomatic support on multilateral platforms. Reassuring the Bangladesh delegation regarding upcoming fuel supply arrangements, Sultan bin Saad Al-Muraikhi affirmed Qatar's readiness to further expand bilateral energy cooperation and address Dhaka's developmental requirements.
Beyond energy security concerns, the two state ministers reviewed broader avenues of mutual cooperation, reaffirming their shared commitment to deepening ties across various sectors of bilateral interest.
