Officials from the Bangladesh Consulate General in Kunming and members of the Kunming Young Entrepreneurs Association gather during the trade and investment exchange meeting in Yunnan, China.
In a major outreach to attract foreign direct investment, Bangladesh has invited emerging business leaders and young entrepreneurs from China’s Yunnan Province to explore vast investment prospects across its rapidly growing manufacturing, healthcare, and agro-processing sectors. The call was extended by Ridwanur Rahman, First Secretary (Commercial) at the Bangladesh Consulate General in Kunming, during a joint exchange meeting organized by the Kunming Young Entrepreneurs Association and the Bangladesh Consulate General in Kunming on Monday.
Presenting a comprehensive keynote titled "Bangladesh as an Investment Destination," the commercial envoy framed Bangladesh as one of Asia's most promising and competitive economic hubs, propelled by an expansive domestic consumer market, a dynamic youth-driven workforce, and a strategically vital geographic position. Highlighting government incentives for foreign capital, he emphasized provisions guaranteeing 100 percent foreign equity ownership, unrestricted repatriation of profits and capital, targeted tax holidays, and duty exemptions on capital machinery imports, with dedicated facilities available at the Chinese Economic and Industrial Zone in Anwara, Chattogram, alongside hi-tech parks and special economic zones nationwide.
During the dialogue, Chinese corporate representatives expressed keen interest in Bangladesh's healthcare and fisheries sectors. In response, the commercial secretary invited direct investment and joint ventures focused on establishing modern hospitals, diagnostic facilities, medical equipment manufacturing, and pharmaceutical formulations powered by Chinese technology. Addressing maritime and aquaculture potential, he underscored lucrative opportunities to set up coastal processing units, commercial farming, and cold-chain logistics for live crabs and eels, which enjoy heavy consumer demand across mainland Chinese markets, while noting that ongoing bilateral market-access procedures for exporting Bangladeshi jackfruit and guava will soon open fresh trade avenues.
The bilateral session drew more than fifty business delegates from diverse industries across Yunnan, led by Kunming Young Entrepreneurs Association President Ouyang Jinggang, Vice President Sun Wenji, and Secretary General Li Yi. The forum concluded with mutual consensus to maintain institutional dialogue, facilitate high-level trade delegation exchanges, and accelerate sector-specific investment partnerships between Bangladeshi and Chinese enterprises.
