Gold prices in Bangladesh have recorded another steep drop, with the Bangladesh Jewellers Association (BAJUS) deciding to slash the rate by Tk 4,374 per bhori. The decision was taken on Wednesday during a meeting of the BAJUS Standing Committee on Pricing and Price Monitoring. Under the revised rate chart, the price of 22-carat gold has been recalibrated to Tk 231,880 per bhori (11.664 grams).
According to BAJUS, the revision reflects a drop in pure gold (tejabi gold) prices across the local market alongside broader economic conditions. The updated prices went into effect nationwide starting from 10:00 AM on Wednesday. Under the latest pricing framework, the VAT-inclusive price stands at Tk 231,880 for 22-carat gold, Tk 221,441 for 21-carat gold, Tk 190,123 for 18-carat gold, and Tk 155,306 per bhori for traditional method gold.
In its press statement, BAJUS clarified that the set retail rates already incorporate VAT, meaning no additional VAT can be levied on buyers, though making charges will vary based on craftsmanship and ornament design. Furthermore, existing guidelines governing the buyback or exchange of gold and silver jewelry—deducting VAT, making charges, and the value of embedded gemstones—remain unchanged. The revised price structure will remain mandatory across all jewelry outlets nationwide until further notice.
Earlier on Monday (August 31), BAJUS reduced gold rates by Tk 4,474 per bhori, setting 22-carat gold at Tk 236,254, 21-carat at Tk 225,640, 18-carat at Tk 193,739, and traditional method gold at Tk 158,280 per bhori.
