Prime Minister’s Finance and Planning Adviser Rashed Al Mahmud Titumir
The government will provide an additional Tk 17,000 crore to reopen shuttered factories across the country, expanding the existing special credit package for the sector from Tk 20,000 crore to a total of Tk 37,000 crore, announced Rashed Al Mahmud Titumir, Finance and Planning Adviser to the Prime Minister.
He made the disclosure while addressing a seminar organized by the Economic Reporters’ Forum (ERF), an organization of journalists covering economics and business affairs. The adviser noted that the government took the initiative to augment the financing facility in direct response to sustained demands from the business community aimed at resuming operational activities in idle industrial units.
Meanwhile, on May 23, Bangladesh Bank announced a special credit package worth Tk 60,000 crore dedicated to reviving closed manufacturing plants and reactivating macroeconomic momentum. Under that overarching credit program, a refinance fund of Tk 41,000 crore was structured utilizing excess liquidity held across commercial banks, while the central bank directly committed the remaining Tk 19,000 crore fund.
Addressing the seminar, the Finance and Planning Adviser reiterated the critical imperative of scaling up financial support through these dedicated funds to restart defunct factories, accelerate industrial output, and revitalize national trade and commerce.
