The country’s liquefied natural gas (LNG) imports from the US surged by 61% in the first six months of the year compared with the same period last year, according the US official data.
Bangladesh imported 50.23 billion cubic feet (bcf) of gas in the first half this year, compared with 31.27 bcf imports in the same period last year.
The country usually imports LNG from the US at low amount, and purchases the bulk from Middle east destinations. This year, the imports have jumped after QatarEnergy declared force majeure on supplies, and extended the move for Bangladesh beyond September.
