The Ministry of Commerce has revoked the trade organization license of the Bangladesh Agrochemical Manufacturers Association (BAMA) and directed it to merge with the Bangladesh Crop Protection Association (BCPA) to eliminate regulatory overlaps and streamline the pesticide sector.
The registration was revoked through an official gazette notification issued on Thursday (September 10) by the Trade Organization-2 branch of the ministry.
According to the notification, BCPA represents 1,230 pesticide traders and manufacturers, while BAMA counts merely 20 members. Given that both associations operate with identical objectives, the ministry determined that maintaining parallel bodies creates operational bottlenecks in the import, production, distribution, and marketing of pesticides. Invoking Section 8 of the Trade Organizations Act, 2022, and Rule 10 of the Trade Organizations Rules, 2025, the ministry terminated BAMA's license.
Official reviews and hearing findings indicated that most BAMA members—including its president, KSM Mustafizur Rahman—held concurrent memberships in BCPA prior to obtaining a separate TO license and largely maintain that status today. Amid internal friction within BAMA leading to member resignations, BCPA formally petitioned the ministry seeking revocation of BAMA's license, resulting in the regulatory directive to consolidate the two bodies under BCPA.
