The Customs, Excise and VAT Commissionerate, Dhaka (West) has detected Tk 3.28 crore in VAT evasion by Xinlian Electronics Technology Bangladesh Co Ltd, an electronics manufacturer in Dhamrai.
Following a tip-off, a preventive team conducted a raid at the company’s facility in Nabagram, Dhamrai, on Sept 17, according to a press release.
The company, registered as a lithium battery manufacturer, was found to have been preparing locally manufactured batteries and keeping imported mobile chargers, branded headphones and Bluetooth headphones for supply.
A review of the seized documents found that the company had concealed sales worth Tk 14,56,18,507, resulting in VAT evasion of Tk 1,89,85,892, the commissionerate said.
The company also concealed information on purchases of goods and raw materials worth Tk 15,22,08,775, leading to another Tk 1,38,37,161 in VAT evasion.
The commissionerate said further legal action would be taken soon in accordance with the relevant laws and rules to recover the government dues.
