Bangladesh has expressed keen interest in expanding cooperation with China’s Yunnan Province in education, culture, renewable energy and economic sectors.
The interest was expressed at a courtesy meeting between newly appointed Consul General of Bangladesh in Kunming Shahanaz Akhter Ranu and Director General of the Yunnan Provincial Foreign Affairs Office (Yunnan FAO) Yang Shaocheng at the Yunnan Provincial Foreign Affairs Office in the capital on Monday, said a press release.
Officials concerned were present at the meeting, where they discussed various aspects of the existing friendly relations and bilateral cooperation between Bangladesh and Yunnan Province.
Consul General Shahanaz Akhter Ranu expressed satisfaction over the progress of relations between the two sides and stressed the need to explore new opportunities for cooperation in education, culture, renewable energy and economic sectors.
She expressed hope that mutual engagement in these areas would be further deepened and expanded.
Yang Shaocheng warmly congratulated and welcomed the newly appointed consul general.
He said bilateral trade between Yunnan Province and Bangladesh exceeded 1.3 billion yuan last year, expressing hope that the two sides would achieve further positive progress in trade this year.
The meeting also discussed the issue of relocating the Chancery of the Consulate General of Bangladesh in Kunming to the designated consular jurisdiction.
Both sides agreed to work together to further strengthen mutual cooperation and enhance people-to-people connectivity and relations between Bangladesh and Yunnan Province.
Shahanaz Akhter Ranu assumed charge as consul general of Bangladesh in Kunming on 12 August.
