The Bangladesh China Chamber of Commerce & Industry (BCCCI) hosted the Bangladesh-Yunnan Trade and Investment Dialogue in Dhaka, bringing together a more than 30-member Chinese business delegation and Bangladeshi business stakeholders to explore new avenues for trade, investment and long-term economic cooperation.
The dialogue was held on Sunday at Bengal Blueberry Hotel in the city, with participation from businesses involved in logistics and supply chains, import-export, new energy, elevators, building technology, electrical equipment, aluminium trading and retail, said a press release today.
The discussion was moderated by Md Abu Taher, Executive Director of BCCCI, facilitating exchanges between the two business communities on investment opportunities, market access and potential areas of cooperation.
In his welcome remarks, BCCCI President Mohd Khorshed Alam highlighted the longstanding economic relationship between Bangladesh and China and stressed the need to further deepen two-way trade.
He encouraged greater Chinese investment in Bangladesh while highlighting export opportunities for Bangladeshi home textiles, readymade garments, leather, seafood and light engineering products in the Chinese market.
He also underscored the potential for Chinese technology and investment to support Bangladesh's renewable energy development and broader energy needs.
Liu Jie, Deputy Director of the Lancang-Mekong Subregional Economic Cooperation and Trade Development Center, introduced Yunnan's "Three Frees and Three Facilitations" policy, which supports overseas businesses through free bonded warehousing, exhibition space and online marketplace access, alongside facilitation in logistics, customs clearance and transportation.
The initiative provides Bangladeshi businesses with practical channels to display, promote and distribute their products in the Chinese market.
The open discussion covered investment opportunities in Bangladesh's export processing zones (EPZs) and economic zones, including the Chinese Economic and Industrial Zone.
Participants also explored potential cooperation in electronics, solar and renewable energy, electric vehicles and auto components, textiles and RMG, agro and food processing, pharmaceuticals and healthcare, IT and IT-enabled services, semiconductors, logistics, light engineering and machinery.
The participants also discussed banking and trade finance, LPG and energy, education and university collaboration, technology support and joint ventures.
The dialogue concluded with the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between BCCCI and CHUANG QI BD LTD to promote trade and investment cooperation, facilitate business connections and identify opportunities for joint commercial engagement between Bangladesh and China.
The MoU is expected to help take the discussions forward by strengthening business-to-business links between the two markets and supporting greater economic cooperation between Bangladesh and China.
BCCCI Secretary General, Senior Vice President, Vice President, Directors and other distinguished members also attended the event.
