Prominent domestic electrical and electronics engineering conglomerate MEP Group has finalized agreements to invest Tk 200 crore to construct an advanced manufacturing and export-oriented industrial complex within the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Shilpa Nagar (BSMSN) in Mirsarai, Chattogram, company executives disclosed on Tuesday (September 22).
The comprehensive investment package, ratified in coordination with the Bangladesh Economic Zones Authority (BEZA), allocates 15 acres of prime industrial land within the coastal economic zone. The facility will be outfitted with precision automated European robotics and clean-tech machinery to manufacture high-voltage industrial cables, energy-efficient circuit breakers, specialized switches, and international-standard conduit piping systems.
Company leadership emphasized that the industrial unit is designed to spearhead robust import substitution, helping domestic industries curb dependence on foreign-sourced electrical fittings. When operating at peak design capacity, the manufacturing hub is projected to generate more than 1,500 direct engineering and technical employment positions, alongside thousands of ancillary downstream logistics opportunities.
"Our strategic commitment to Mirsarai reflects unwavering confidence in the industrial potential of Bangladesh's dedicated economic corridors," an MEP Group managing director stated in Chattogram. "By establishing localized, world-class production facilities adjacent to the deep-water maritime and regional highway corridors, we will supply heavy domestic infrastructure projects while exporting specialized electrical goods across South and Southeast Asia."
BEZA Executive Chairman praised the initiative, affirming that the authority is ensuring uninterrupted utility connections—including high-pressure natural gas lines, 132kV dedicated power substations, and industrial wastewater treatment networks—to expedite factory commissioning within the next 18 months. The investment marks another substantial milestone in transforming Mirsarai into South Asia's premier integrated manufacturing metropolis.
