The newly reconstituted Board of Directors of Islami Bank Bangladesh PLC held a pivotal executive meeting at its corporate headquarters in Dilkusha, Dhaka, on Wednesday evening (September 23), formulating a strategic roadmap for liquidity mobilization, non-performing investment recovery, and digital Shariah compliance.
Presided over by Chairman Md. Obayed Ullah Al Masud, the high-level boardroom session thoroughly reviewed the progress made in recovering classified investment portfolios siphoned off through fraudulent syndicated entities by previous controlling groups over the past seven years.
The board evaluated recent central bank financial support facilities, noting that customer deposit inflows have registered a robust resurgence across its nationwide network of 395 branches and 2,500 agent banking outlets, reflecting a dramatic turnaround in depositor confidence following regulatory interventions.
Addressing the post-meeting press briefing in Dhaka on Wednesday night, Islami Bank Managing Director and CEO Mohammed Monirul Moula stated, "Our board has adopted an aggressive asset-reconstruction strategy focused on reclaiming misappropriated capital, restoring Shariah governance, and digitizing remittance corridors. Depositor deposits are completely secure, and we are channeling fresh liquidity into small and medium enterprises (SMEs) and export sectors."
The board also approved enhanced internal compliance audits, the appointment of independent legal recovery counsels across all divisions, and a fast-track automated platform to disburse low-cost agricultural investment lines for the upcoming winter cropping season.
