Bangladesh Bank Governor Mostaqur Rahman said the central bank is implementing a Tk 62,000 crore incentive package to provide low-interest loans to entrepreneurs and boost private sector investment.
He said the current lending rate of around 12-14 percent is putting pressure on businesses and making it difficult for entrepreneurs to succeed.
He said this on Friday while addressing an exchange of views meeting titled 'Meeting with stakeholders of Rajshahi region on implementation of incentive package announced by Bangladesh Bank for private sector development' at the PTI Auditorium in Rajshahi city.
Bangladesh Bank's Rajshahi branch organised the meeting, chaired by its Executive Director Muhammad Badiuzzaman Didar.
Rajshahi Divisional Commissioner Yusuf Ali and Deputy Commissioner and District Magistrate Kazi Shahidul Islam attended the meeting as special guests.
He said a special scheme, 'Udyog', has been introduced to support young entrepreneurs. Under the scheme, 10 young entrepreneurs from each upazila, or around 5,000 nationwide, will receive financial and policy support. Full implementation of the scheme is expected from November.
He also said Tk 60,000 crore has been targeted for agricultural and rural credit in FY2026-27, while Tk 10,000 crore and Tk 3,000 crore refinancing schemes are being implemented to support agriculture, employment and exports.
Business leaders at the meeting called for proper monitoring to ensure that the loan facilities reach genuine entrepreneurs.
