President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Monday called upon the country’s youths to come forward and engage in business and commerce.
The President made the call when a 21-member delegation of Dhaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI), led by its President Taskeen Ahmed, paid a courtesy call on him at Bangabhaban.
President’s Press Secretary Md Sarwar Alam told BSS.
During the meeting, the President urged the business community to come forward to develop the country’s energy sector promptly.
Urging youth-engagement in various creative sectors, he said,“Young entrepreneurs need to be more involved in meeting the challenges of emerging modern technologies, including the Fourth Industrial Revolution, digital transformation and artificial intelligence.”
Referring to low-interest bank loans during the tenure of late Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman, Mirza Fakrul Islam said,“Such loans had helped industrialisation and created new entrepreneurs in backward regions like Rajshahi and the northern region.”
“New factories and business establishments were set up, which was a groundbreaking initiative,” he said.
In this connection, he stressed the need to reduce bank interest rates to expand business and commerce.
During the meeting, the DCCI invited the President to attend the upcoming Bangladesh AI Business Summit 2026. The President accepted the invitation and assured that he would attend the event.
The DCCI representatives said they have been working to implement Prime Minister Tarique Rahman’s plan to achieve the goal of raising the country’s economy to one trillion dollars by 2034.
“It will be possible to resolve the problems facing country’s business and commerce and move forward within the next two years by working together with government,” they expressed.
The delegation apprised the President of their various demands, problems and potentials.
Mirza Fakhrul Islam also called on the delegation to help institutionalise the democracy, saying, “People had repeatedly struggled, fought and sacrificed their lives for democracy in the country. But after achieving democracy, we failed to institutionalise it as political parties misused the benefits of democracy.”
He said the country had fallen behind in the past due to the establishment of a culture of looting, while business and commerce had come to a standstill.
He noted that country’s banking sector was destroyed because of personal greed and avarice.
At the time, the President called upon the business community to come forward in social development and welfare activities.
The President’s Military Secretary, Secretary and Press Secretary, and members of the DCCI delegation were present.
