The Bangladesh Jewellers’ Association (BAJUS) slashed domestic gold prices by Tk 3,266 per bhori on Tuesday (October 13), setting the new retail price of hallmarked 22-carat gold at Tk 2,28,031 per bhori, inclusive of value-added tax (VAT).
The revised rates, announced through a morning circular issued by BAJUS, took effect nationwide at 10:00 AM on Tuesday.
BAJUS cited a decline in the price of pure gold (tezabi gold) in the local bullion market as the reason for the downward adjustment.
Under the revised price structure, 21-carat gold has been fixed at Tk 2,17,767 per bhori, 18-carat at Tk 1,87,032 per bhori, and traditional-method gold at Tk 1,52,798 per bhori. One bhori corresponds to 11.664 grams.
The trade body reiterated that jewelry making charges will vary based on design complexity. Because retail sales prices already incorporate VAT, jewelers are strictly barred from billing separate VAT charges to customers. For exchanges, a mandatory deduction of 12 percent applies after excluding stone weights and labor costs, while outright buybacks require an 18 percent deduction. Additional VAT deductions during buybacks or exchanges remain prohibited.
The price cut follows an upward revision on October 9, when BAJUS raised the price of 22-carat gold by Tk 2,216 to Tk 2,31,297 per bhori.
According to BAJUS records, domestic gold rates have been revised 123 times so far this year—comprising 60 price hikes, 62 cuts, and one VAT restructuring. In 2025, prices were adjusted 93 times, with 64 increases and 29 reductions.
