Labour and Employment Minister Ariful Haque Choudhury has said the government has decided to form a minimum wage board for garment workers, which will be constituted on Sunday.
He made the announcement at a press conference on Friday night following a meeting with garment workers’ leaders.
Describing the discussion with the workers’ leaders as highly fruitful, the minister said, “Inshallah, the process of forming the minimum wage board for garment workers will begin on Sunday morning.”
Ariful said the government must protect industries while ensuring that workers’ legitimate demands are met.
“I believe there are certainly some issues that we need to address regarding the demands raised by the workers’ leaders. Based on discussions with them, we will gradually implement the workers’ legitimate demands,” he added.
