BNP nominee for Chuadanga-2 and BGMEA President Mahmud Hasan Khan Babu on Tuesday said the people are the party’s main strength and pledged to restore citizens’ voting rights through a free and fair election on February 12.
Addressing a series of roadside rallies in Darshana under Damurhuda upazila from afternoon until night, Babu sought votes for the BNP’s “Sheaf of Paddy” symbol, meeting residents at markets, tea stalls and street corners across eight wards of Darshana municipality.
In his speech, Babu said people had been deprived of voting for 17 years and that BNP has been fighting to restore democratic rights. “This country belongs to everyone. Democracy is your right,” he said, accusing the ruling party of authoritarianism and corruption. He vowed that if BNP is entrusted with governing, it would build a discrimination-free Bangladesh, ensure the rule of law, protect women’s dignity, guarantee fair wages, reduce unemployment and ensure religious freedom.
He also urged party activists to take BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman’s 31-point reform agenda to every household ahead of the election.
The rallies were attended by senior BNP leaders and activists, including Chuadanga district BNP leaders, municipal unit coordinators, and leaders of affiliated organisations such as Jubo Dal, Krishak Dal and Sramik Dal.
