Health Minister Sarwar Hossain Sakhawat has expressed strong dissatisfaction over the unhygienic environment and mismanagement at Narayanganj General (Victoria) Hospital, issuing a 72-hour ultimatum to ensure full cleanliness and safety compliance.
Speaking virtually on Sunday morning during the inauguration of ICU services in 10 districts from the hospital premises, the minister directed the Civil Surgeon to clean and make the hospital’s kitchen, bathrooms, and overall surroundings hazard-free within three days. He also instructed the Deputy Commissioner to closely monitor the implementation of the directive.
The minister strongly criticized the storage of old and unusable items in the hospital kitchen, warning that such negligence could lead to the spread of germs and pose serious risks to patients. He said such irregularities would no longer be tolerated and stressed that officials must now operate under strict accountability.
He further stated that the government is committed to bringing positive changes in the healthcare sector and prioritizing public service above all outdated practices. He warned of strict action against those responsible if the instructions are not implemented within the stipulated time.
The event was attended by senior officials including representatives from the health administration, local government, and civil surgeons, along with others concerned.
