Allegations have emerged of the illegal sale of ration rice from Kashimpur Central Jail-4 (High Security) in Gazipur, leading to the seizure of 1,000 kilograms (40 sacks) of rice outside the prison premises, raising serious questions about the jail’s food management system.
According to reports, around 6:30 am on Wednesday (June 17), a man named Monir Hossain allegedly transported 40 sacks of rice from the prison using an autorickshaw. A certificate reportedly stated that about 1,000 kg of rice, described as surplus from the basic ration needs of prison officials and staff, was sold to a private enterprise named Sabiha Fifa Enterprise in Sreepur upazila of Gazipur.

Sources claim that the rice was handed over under the supervision of Nazrul Islam, who is in charge of the prison’s ration store. Allegations further suggest that rice allocated for prisoners was illegally sold outside the facility, raising concerns over misuse of government food supplies.
Local sources also alleged that “Sagar Special” Paijam rice supplied by Sagar Auto Rice Mills has repeatedly been involved in similar unauthorized distribution linked to prison rations, often moved out discreetly during late hours. However, these claims have not been independently verified.
Following a tip-off via the national emergency service number, police from Konabari Police Station reportedly recovered and seized the 40 sacks of rice from the scene. Authorities confirmed that an investigation is ongoing to determine the origin of the rice and whether it was indeed part of prison ration stock.
When contacted, Senior Jail Superintendent Abdullah Al Mamun of Kashimpur Central Jail-4 declined to provide detailed comments on the allegations and reportedly issued a warning of legal action against journalists, according to reporters present.
The incident has sparked widespread concern among locals and civil society, who are calling for a fair and impartial investigation into the alleged misappropriation of prison ration supplies and strict legal action against those found responsible.
