Minister Sheikh Robiul Alam and Mongla Port Authority officials offer prayers at an inauguration plaque at Mongla Port
Road Transport and Bridges, Railways and Shipping Minister Sheikh Robiul Alam has described the workers and employees of Mongla Port as one of the key driving forces of the country's economy, stressing the need to ensure their rightful rights, welfare and employment alongside institutional development.
He made the remarks as the chief guest at the induction ceremony of the newly elected representatives of the Mongla Port Authority Employees' Association, organised by the Mongla Port Authority on Friday (November 6, 2026).
Rear Admiral Arif Ahmed Mostafa, NUP, ndc, afwc, psc, chairman of the Mongla Port Authority, presided over the event.
Addressing the gathering, the minister said both employees and employers benefit when an institution prospers. Therefore, ensuring the overall development and operational capacity of an organisation must go hand in hand with protecting workers' legitimate rights and welfare.
He emphasised that relations between workers and the institution should be based on close cooperation, sincerity and mutual trust. While workers and employees have an important role in institutional development, their fair rights and benefits must also be ensured.
Highlighting the importance of expanding and modernising Mongla Port, Sheikh Robiul Alam said increased port capacity would boost import and export activities, create new employment opportunities and help transform the country's southern region into a major economic hub.
He stressed the need to ensure adequate facilities for industrialisation to achieve these goals.

The minister also called on all concerned to rise above personal and narrow interests and give priority to national interests. He urged stakeholders to work together to accelerate port development and the country's economic progress.
Congratulating the newly elected representatives, he said they must remain alert and active in protecting the broader interests of workers and employees through competent leadership. They should also play a responsible role in ensuring workers' rights, dignity and employment opportunities while raising their legitimate demands.
He expressed hope that the newly elected representatives would make meaningful contributions to workers' welfare and the overall development of Mongla Port.
